Cousin refuses to sleep on a pull-out couch with her BF for 6 nights on vacation, sparks family feud when she books her own Airbnb: 'My mom [says] I will "ruin" the trip if I don't stay under the same roof'

Family reunions are often a good idea in theory, but is the madness of logistics worth it in the end? Most people who have actually participated in these kinds of get-togethers know how difficult it is to align schedules, needs, and preferences when there are over ten people involved and a combination of seniors, adults, and little ones. Inevitably, there will be conflicting interests, and someone's feelings are bound to get hurt in the process.

In this instance, one of the cousins within a large family was the person who got the short end of the stick. She was initially under the impression that the Airbnb the whole family was getting would have six bedrooms. Of course, however, there was a slight miscalculation. The cousin's aunt, who elected to take on the Airbnb reservation duties, ended up booking the space before realizing that there were only five bedrooms. Guess who had to deal with the shoddily made pull-out couch?

  • After learning that she was expected to sleep on the pull-out with her boyfriend, the cousin decided it was far too much to ask of two fully grown adults for a six-night trip, especially since the pull-out was quite small and in the center of activity in the home. Of course, however, the prospect of suggesting getting her own place would spark a whole family debate. This is why family reunions should be carefully coordinated by all parties with very little pressure attached. It shouldn't be radical to want your own space, and yet when family members are involved, feelings can get hurt was too easily.

    It seems your Aunts whole family gets the main rooms. Maybe suggest to mom that she might like to air bnb with you and boyfriend, where if they need quiet time, they have a place to do so. Mom
